Vietnam War Timeline

August 2 & 4, 1964 - North Vietnamese attack two US destroyers sitting in the Gulf of Tonkin

August 7, 1964 - US Congress declares war via the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

March 2, 1965 - Operation Rolling Thunder (massive ariel bombing of North Vietnam)

March 8, 1965 - US Troops land in North Vietnam

January 30, 1968 - North Vietnames join with Viet Cong and launch Tet Offensive

March 16, 1968 - US Troops murder hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in Mai Lai

November 13, 1969 - American Public learn of Mai Lai massacre

April 30, 1970 - The media spark nationwide protest

March 1972 - North Vietnam attack South Vietnam in what is know as the Easter Offensive

January 27, 1973 - The Paris Peace Accords are signed to provide a cease-fire

March 1975 - The last of the US Troops are withdrawn from Vietnam
